Description

Documentation from Boston Whaler confirms that this is a 1966 Boston Whaler Nauset shipped in April of 1966. We acquired the craft in March of 2016. The near pristine hull inspired us to do the restoration. The hull required zero fiberglass work, had a perfect transom, excellent hardware, (all of which is original), and simply had the look of a freshwater craft stored indoors for 50 years.
The hull-1966 Boston Whaler Nauset 16'7" hull Number 34891. We removed it from the trailer, hung it from the ceiling, and did a rotisserie prep and awl grip sprayed on finish. First 2 coats of awl grip primer followed by 4 coats of color. The interior was sprayed with Boston Whaler blue. The exterior was sprayed with Boston Whaler White Revisited. A new rub rail was installed.
The hardware-All of the original hardware was there. However, the stanchions were chrome plated bronze. We stripped the chrome off of all chrome plated bronze parts and had them re-chromed. The result was perfectly re-chromed original parts. The rail tee's were chrome plated pot metal and not worth salvaging. We replaced all the tee's with new stainless. The through the transom and anchor locker plumbing was replaced with 3/4 inch I.D. brass pipe. Threaded at both ends to provide another 50 years of service. The steering was entirely replaced with a Teleflex no feedback system. Bezel, cable, and destroyer wheel all new.
The woodwork-Unfortunately, the wood work had seen better days. We were able to use what was there to pattern for the new center console and bench. The transom bench was designed and built by the master carpenter who built the new console and benches. All materials are 100% solid Spanish Cedar, a mahogany which is relatively light weight, termite and rot resistant. The wood was first treated with West Systems epoxy and finished with 6 coats of satin marine poly. There is zero plywood anywhere. The resulting craftsmanship as well as extremely high quality lumber are somewhat visible in the photos.
The power-We chose the 75 HP Evinrude E-TEC for this craft. The E-TEC is the lightest, lowest emission, quietest, most fuel efficien, most powerful, least maintenance motor available. (Power tilt at trim at the helm and at the motor and weighing in 100 pounds less than the original motor). The motor is new with warranty and not due for it's first check-up for 300 hours. We put 6 hours on the craft in Lake Meade and the Colorado River for it's tests. It now has 6 hours on it. Please read the reviews for this motor. It's a $10,000 motor with the controls and installation.. We could have gotten a Merc or Honda for less but in our experience the Evinrude was the only choice. The tachometer houses the diagnostics for the motor. Turn the key on and it does the diagnostics. After the beep, turn the key and the motor starts without turning one revolution. From that point it monitors all functions at a rate of 6 million calcs per minute. A no worry motor. This is not a motor effected by restrictions. It's a direct injection motor. No carburetors....no problems. The 75 and the 90 HP are exactly the same motor. If you'd prefer it to be a 90 HP...Take it to an Evinrude dealer and have the computer remapped to become a 90. The craft is currently configured for fishing. Here in Nevada that means a low trolling speed. We have installed a new Solas stainless steel 4 blade 13 pitch prop to keep the at idle speed to 1.5 mph. Included with the sale is a new Solas stainless steel 4 blade 17 pitch prop if you're interested in speeds of over 40. The fuel tank is a new18 gallon aluminum.
The electrical-All the original wiring was removed. A new fuse box was installed and wired with separate circuits for everything. 6 banks of 6 LED lights light it up nicely for night fishing. The original bow and anchor lights were re-chromed and look perfect. The 2 Exide batteries are in the console and wired with a 3 way power switch. All of the electrical switches are Cole-Hersee marine made in USA with no plastic. The wiring was done by a 40 year electrician. All connectors were soldered and shrink tubed. There's an hour meter and a power point with the usual lighter connector as well 2 USB's.
The trailer-
While the boat was in the air, the trailer was rolled under it allowing us to specifically configure it to the hull. The bunks are new Douglas fir, treated with West System epoxy, and carpeted. They are welded as well as through bolted. All the rollers are new. The winch is new. All the wiring and LED taillights are new. The tires, wheels, and bearings are new. (225/75 R15 6 ply Trailer tires) The axle is solid steel. This is a perfect match for the boat. It's titled and inspected by the Arizona Department of Transportation. Just an excellent trailer.
If you'd like more information or photos I can be reached at 928-303- 6753. I have a complete file on everything that's been done during this restoration. I have receipts for everything, warranty papers for the motor, and clear titles for the boat and trailer. Thanks for looking, Simon
The Bimini is an 8'X72" Carver with Sunbrella fabric and stainless fittings. New with a 5 year warranty. ($700)
The GPS/Sonar is a Hummingbird Helix 7. New with box. ($450) The steering system is a new Teleflex no feedback system. Helm, cable and destroyer wheel all new. The boat is stored indoors in Boulder City Nevada. The compass is an Air Guide 90. New old stock with the box from the 60's. Red backlight. I do have the original controls and ignition switch. They are in mint original condition and work perfectly, and are included in this sale. I will have the boat shrink wrapped for shipping.

I raised the motor 1.75 inches. Research on this era Whaler indicated that the cavitation plate sat 1.75 inches below the water line. It was raised it to compensate for that. Also, I moved the batteries to the console and put the 18 gallon fuel tank under the bench which according to a marine engineer suggested that the motor should be set 2 inches aft of the transom. The boat performs perfectly. ( New aluminum Jack Plate secured in the original holes with all new stainless hardware).
