I am re-listing this boat yet again due to non-payment.
This classic cruiser was lovingly customized by her previous owner. She has four Atlantic crossings under her belt. You will not find a more seakindly blue water boat, and with her inch-thick solid glass hull, you won't find a better built one, either.
I have $40K invested in upgrades and getting her to Miami. I am not in a position to spend any more money or time. Storage fees are adding up. It's time to count my losses. I have run out of time and money to finish this restoration and hope to place this masterpiece of a cruising boat in the hands of a sailor who has the skills and means to take her back out to sea. Bidding starts at far less than the value of the gear on board.
  • The Aries vane is worth $3000
  • The stainless steel anchors and chain are worth $5000
  • The spare swivel for the Harken furler is worth $500
  • The Luke feathering prop is worth $1200
  • Add the tools and spares and you have a floating marine flea market

Semira is currently on a mooring in a protected harbor at Key Biscayne on Miami's Biscayne Bay. She is federally documented in the US.
Questions? Please ask. Only buy if this boat is right for you. Much remains to be done and I'd like to place her in capable hands. You can easily find my contact info online under Dave Bricker, but while I welcome your call, please do not ask me to conclude a sale outside of eBay. I am happy to pay the small eBay fee, and it is not an additional expense to you.
The pictures in the listing show the boat in her prime.

Custom stainless telescoping tiller steering means you can feel the way she responds in a way that you cannot with a wheel. She's sloop rigged with a full keel. Draft is currently a bit over 5 feet but if you remove all the heavy tools, she should come up to 4'8" - a great depth for cruising the Bahamas.
I have full paperwork and USCG documentation for this vessel.
The 300-pound bronze centerboard is glassed up inside. I owned the sister ship (hull #14) and found the board was more of a hassle (barnacles in the slot) than a help.
  • 3 coats epoxy bottom barrier coat
  • New 316 chain plates
  • Rudder rebuilt and new rudder shoe bushing
  • New heavy cruising mainsail
  • New prop shaft tube and Rulon AB shaft bearing
  • All new engine hoses
  • Old epoxy non-skid removed, deck ready to paint
  • New burners in kerosene stove and numerous spares.
  • New running rigging
  • Bottom recently cleaned
Includes:
  • Brand New heavy cruising mainsail made for the boat with new acrylic cover.
  • Tools in watertight plastic and aluminum military boxes. Previous owner made his living as a mechanic and engineer.
  • Treasure trove of spare parts, filters, SS hardware, etc.
  • HAM/SSB radio
  • Numerous spare anchors
  • Luke feathering prop
  • Fresh water cooled Volvo MD17C 35hp Diesel is frozen, needs replacing
  • Best galley you’ll find on any boat under 70 feet
  • Custom interior with stainless trim.
  • New starting battery (3 years old now, not guaranteed but barely-used)
  • New house battery
  • Belt driven AC generator and dive compressor.
  • Aries windvane (the good stainless/bronze one)
  • Monel windlass on double stainless steel-reinforced foredeck
  • Custom bow pulpit and stern rail with built-in dive ladder.
  • New depth sounder and sender
  • 15hp outboard (needs impeller)
  • Harken #2 furler
  • 9-foot hard dinghy
  • life preservers and safety equipment
  • Numerous sails
  • Multi-stage fuel filtration/water separation
  • Excellent anchor inventory
  • Acrylic sun cover from a Beneteau 39 you can modify to fit this boat or use for projects
  • Excellent sea anchor
  • Various storm sails and spinnakers
  • Two spinnaker poles that stow on the front of the mast or on-deck
  • Includes a 9-foot dinghy and oars.
  • All-stainless steel anchors and chain
What she needs:
  • Wiring is in mostly great condition thanks to soldered and heat shrunk terminals, but there’s a short somewhere. I have a wiring diagram, but switches and wires are unlabeled. You’ll need time, patience, and a multi-meter with long leads (leads are on board). Everything here is military spec. Most switches are waterproof sealed NASA surplus.
  • Deck is stripped of old non-skid, but needs painting
  • Dodger bow has a corrosion crack—needs to be welded.
  • Cockpit canvas needs replacing.
  • Delivery crew used diesel in the kerosene stove. Kero tank needs flushing.
  • My mechanic trashed parts of the cork interior and removed the interior shelves. One remains on board. The other will need replacing.
  • Deck-hull joint and cap rail need updating and replacement before the boat is ready for ocean cruising, but she does not leak at anchor or on a light sail. She made it up from Trinidad to Miami with only minor water intrusion.
  • Need a good #2 furling jib as current one is old.
  • Engine does not run, and needs to be replaced with another Volvo MD17C. Gaskets and spare parts are on board.
  • Dive compressor and generator need to be reinstalled. They are stored in my house in the AC.
  • Electronics need updating
  • Pressure fresh water system needs some electrical work and filter changes
  • The bottom paint is tired and working so-so. It can be temporarily renewed with a good scrub, but it's time for a haul-out.
  • Prop needs to be de-oystered and lubricated.
Seriously—read this:
Please do not bid if you don't intend to buy.
No, I will not finance the boat. If you can't afford her and don't have reserves to fix her up, don't bid.
I have done my best to represent everything honestly and accurately, but if something has deteriorated or changed, that can happen on the water. There is gear aboard I've never used or tested. Ask me questions during the auction and I will answer honestly, but this vessel is sold as-is, where-is.
Most of the photos in the listing show her in her prime. See a gallery of over 400 images at https://www.flickr.com/gp/davebricker/4ois56
Semira is a wonderful boat but she is a project. The engine does not run and it needs to be replaced.
There is no survey.
I had several inquiries so … If you are a young person with no money preparing for a walkabout, this boat will sink you. I did that in my 20s - left with $30 on a $3000 boat and had great adventures - and I will encourage you, but you want to go sailing. Semira is a project for experienced shipwrights and a boat for experienced sailors.
If you buy my boat,I cannot transfer the mooring with the boat. There are three free anchorages within an easy sail across sheltered open water you can easily get to. I will transfer the paperwork in-person or by mail within one week, and you will be responsible for immediately moving the vessel off her mooring.
Please communicate. I am flexible and easy to deal with.
The previous owner believed the first two Invictas were built by Palmer Johnson and that's what it says on Sailboat Data. However, when I tried to verify that, both Palmer-Johnson and old Everett Pearson told me that all the Invictas were built by Pearson. The previous owner's Canadian wife was born in 1966. Especially after their divorce, getting documentation transferred from the Canadian Ship's Registry to me with a Power of Attorney letter from him (from Germany) just about required a United Nations Security Council Resolution. The USCG documentation you will receive says "1966 Palmer Johnson" on it, and while you are welcome to wade deep into the muddy waters of bureaucracy to fix that, I suggest you go sailing instead on your 1959 Pearson Invicta. I will provide all the paperwork that led to finally getting her USCG documented.
Don't bid if you have only enough money to buy the boat and no resources to put into her. I can't stop someone from parting out this historic cruiser, but with some love, she can be as fine a piece of round-the-world sailing art as has ever graced the ocean. You can't understand the elegance with which this boat handles the seas until you've had her out in the big swells. Every angle presents the most graceful curves and lines, and this translates into a seakindliness that will keep you safe and comfortable. Please update this boat and go sailing. You will never find another boat like her.
