2000 Bayliner Capri 2050 LX
2000 Bayliner Capri LX
Description
2000 Bayliner Capri LX 2050 ( 20' 6" ) with only 99 hours on it! It has a 5 liter V8 Mercruiser engine. Alpha One stern drive. Has Tilt steering wheel, rack and pinion power steering, and power trim. Digital depth gauge. Factory installed am/fm and cd player. Integrated swim platform with ladder and ski locker. In dash cooler with drain. Includes convertible top and bow cover. Includes escort trailer with surge brakes.
This boat is in excellent condition - almost like new. Has spent half its life in the garage and when moved out into the driveway has always been covered by a good cover. As a result there is virtually no sun damage or water damage. If you look at the photos, you will see that all the plastics are shiny and in good condition and the upholstering is also in excellent shape! This boat has only been in fresh water lakes. The layout is wonderful - a bowrider up front, two bucket seats behind the windshield, a huge bench seat with the engine covered by a large upholstered and padded sun deck. Behind that is an integrated swim platform with built in ladder. Seats 8 comfortably. Storage is huge on this boat - in fact it was the deciding factor as to why I bought this boat instead of others. With the exception of the two bucket seats which are pedestal mounted to the floor, there is storage under each and every seat. In addition there is large covered storage under the instrument panel and dash on the drivers side and under the cooler on the passenger side. The ski locker can hold a set of double skis, a slalom ski, and a wakeboard( with some careful aligning of the bindings to make them all fit ). The area under the sundeck has two storage areas - one on each side of the engine. One side I use to hold all 8 ski vests, so they are each quite large. There is also open storage on each side of the boat running from the dash to the rear bench seat. I never found any other boat with such well designed storage areas.
Engine is a 5 liter V8 mercruiser. It has a 2 barrel carburetor and is very good on fuel. A day on the lake ( 6 hours ) will only usually cost me between 3 and 5 gallons of gasoline depending on how much time is spent swimming versus waterskiing/tubing/wakeboarding. Never have had any problem at all with it or the Alpha one stern drive. Original propeller is still on the boat and is in excellent condition. I have never cleaned the engine. There are no leaks of any kind. It has a slight coating of dust on it as you can see from the picture. The buyer of this boat will appreciate the fact that I have not tried to hide anything by cleaning the engine!
There are 3 things on this boat that are not quite right - but not really a problem. First, the tachometer "floats" from time to time. Usually when you first start the engine, the tach will slowly float up to around 3000 rpm and stay there for 30 seconds or so before going back down to the idle speed. This will happen several times during the day. Sometimes when pulling a skier for example, it will float up to 3k before you have gotten the skier out of the water. Then when the actual engine speed reaches that "float" value, it is fine from then on. I have seen this on other bayliners on youtube, so it appears to be a common problem. If you tap the housing around the tachometer, it will correct itself so that indicates the problem is the tach and not something else. I consider this to be a minor annoyance as it doesn't happen very often and the boat has a speedometer which maps one to one with rpms. For example, 2500 rpms = 25 mph. The second minor problem is that the boat cover I used did not cover a small section of the vinyl graphic on the side of the boat. Because of this there is some cracking of the vinyl graphic due to sun damage. You can only notice this when you are very close to the 1" strip. I have attached a photo of this. And the last problem is the gas struts that hold open the sun deck over the engine have lost their gas and so I use a piece of wood to hold it open - as pictured.
Escort trailer has had the drum brake actuator replaced in 2011 ( this is the part that connects onto the hitch ball and contains the brake master cylinder ). This part is responsible for pressurizing the brake lines. In 2012, cleaned and re-packed the wheel bearings and installed new grease seals( they were fine - really didn't need to do this but at least it is done now and they will be good for a long time ). Replaced both brake wheel cylinders ( they had rusted out because I had not been bleeding the brakes ). It is important to bleed the brakes at least once every two years! I am amazed they lasted 11 years with no maintenance. Both wheels have "bearing buddies" - just give them a squirt of grease before you tow the boat and you will be good!
The fenders on the trailer had a poorly designed mounting system. Plastic tabs on the bottom of the fenders connected to the steel trailer frame. Road bumps, vibrations and flexing cracked both the mounts on the fenders. I had to "repair" them by installing some aluminum support onto the bottoms of the fenders, then bolting these onto the trailer frame. Additionally, the right side fender has been replaced with an after market unit. This fender's mounting system was even worse than the original. When standing on the step on top of the fender, the center of the fender would sink and the sides would flex outward. I had to not only install aluminum supports on the bottom of this fender but also two aluminum "straps" on top of the fender to securely bolt it down onto the trailer frame to fix the flexing problem. A photo of this fix is attached. I did not cut holes in the fender to install the lights and so this fender has no lights on it. Overall, the trailer is good now but I felt it necessary to explain all this.
The trailer tires are original with low miles but should probably be replaced due to their age( although there is not any visible cracking on the sidewalls ) if any significant towing is done. I only live 15 miles from the lake so I am not concerned with heat buildup although if I were to keep this boat, I would get new tires at this time.
Buyer will be responsible for picking up the boat - I don't have a means of delivering it.
Sorry for the somewhat lengthy description but now you know all there is to know. No surprises here.
Overall, this is a great boat - very reliable with a great layout! I doubt there is another used boat out there in such good shape.
If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.
