I'm listing my 1991 Chaparral 2000SL open bow boat and single axle bunk trailer. The boat is powered by a 4.3l with a Volvo Penta DP-A duo prop drive. We've used the boat religiously the past 3 summers, but the boat does have issues. Has only been used in freshwater as far as I know.
I have seen the DP-A drives themselves sell for more than my total asking price. I just can't bring myself to part it and hope someone is willing to sort it out.
I'm going to start with the bad news.
The boat pops out of the water and the engine has plenty of power and pulls perfectly up to 3000 rpm but knocks when trying to go wide open throttle. I can't figure out why but it hasn't stopped us from using it.
I don't have any of the history of the boat, but I don't believe that the engine that is in it is a marine engine. Looks like it may be from a truck.
The drive won’t hold trim and drifts over time. When you trim the boat up, you lose about 1 degree of trim every few minutes. Needs ram seals to fix.
There is a slow battery drain. I have a quick disconnect that I use when the boat isn’t in use, but it will go dead overnight if not disconnected. Amp meter shows no draw so I don't know the cause.
Needs a new shift cable.
Sun deck vinyl is cracking and wood backing should be replaced.
Trailer tires should be replaced. Tread is good, but they are starting to crack.
The cover is falling apart and is only good for keeping leaves out.
On the bright side.
Brand new AC Delco Voyager ignition system in August of this year.
Bellows and u-joints were replaced in the spring of 2015
New carburetor, fuel pump, and starter in the spring of 2014
Hull is in pretty good shape with minor chalking of the gel coat and a few scratches and dings here and there.
Comes with bimini top and the top that attaches to the windshield.
Bow cushions and captain’s chairs are in very good shape. Bottom rear cushions have been replaced.
Trailer brakes are brand new.
