2000 Four Winns 285 Sundowner
2000 Four Winns 285 Sundowner Twin 350 engines
Description
I am listing my 2000 Four Winns 285 Sundowner as we just don’t use it! I bought the boat 5 plus years ago, put in a new engine, had all the cockpit interior replaced and removed the factory vinyl stickers. We have used the boat on Lake Lanier and on the Tennessee River. It is a great size boat and due to the extra wide beam it feels even larger. The dry weight of the boat is about 6800 so it handles waves great. The twin 350 engines get it on plane quickly and will push it to just over 50 mph.
I pulled the boat in the fall of 2019 because the power steering was leaking from one of the hoses. Unfortunately you have to take the exhaust off to get to it so I have left that project. The last time we took it out the port engine wasn’t running right and started to get hot. I shut it down and proceeded to the dock on one engine. The next week I started both engines and was able to get it to the ramp and take it out. The engine did better and didn’t overheat but was not 100%. I’m not sure what the issue is and am not spending more time or money on it.
The trailer was gone thru last year and new lights and a new non brake axle was installed ( trailer is rated for 10000 lbs but does not have brakes ) I have had trailers with brakes and they always seem to have issues so I removed it. Electric brakes could be added relatively easy. The trailer is an aluminum Ibeam trailer that is worth the starting bid. The boat will need some work to make lake ready but realistically even if you had to put a $2500 long block in it ( which is what I did a couple years ago for the starboard side )
