Q: | What are the engine hours? What is the age of the sail, and is there a spare? What is the age of the electronics? Is it correct there is no, AIS, GPS plotter or radar? Thanks, John | |
A: | Thank you for your interest in "Sophisti-Kat". The boat actually has very low hours on the motor. Over 31 years, there are only 658 total hours on the engine. The sail is in very good condition. It come off every season and is cleaned whenever needed. Agai, this boat has had very little use as it spent much of its life as a mooring Queen so the sails spent most of their time covered by the sail cover and the engine was started mostly to keep the batteries charged. The fuel tank always had plenty of stabil and seasonal maintenance is always done to the boat whether it requires it or not. The engine runs like a top. In regard to the electronics, there are all Datamarine instruments. Depth, Wind & Speed & Knot Meter. Depth, Wind and Speed all work fine. The Knot meter is fine but was disconnected because there is a portable GPS Plotter Unit that of course covers speed more accurately. The VHF is only three seasons old and was only used 2-3 times as the boat has been on the hard for the past two years. There is no AIS or Radar. Due to the economy, we have seriously lowered the price of this boat to move it along. Two years ago the boat was listed for over $80,000. This is one heck of a boat for this asking price and I can assure you that you will be very challenged to find another Nonsuch with such little use or with such excellent maintenance. Please let me know if you wish to discuss further. Thanks, Bob |
Caution: The reason I have not placed this boat in the water is because I want any prospective buyer to be re-assured that the boat is just as perfect below the waterline as it is topside. You can run a moisture meter anywhere you want on"Sophisti-Kat" and you will find a boat as dry as it was the day it came from the factory.Beware of any boat being sold that is already in the water and make sure to have the owner place it on “The Hard” before making your purchase so you can make sure you are getting a sound boat. Many older boats are placed in the water when being sold to hide blisters and saturated fiberglass.
You can be assured that you are buying from a provider with the utmost integrity. I pride myself on only selling excellent product that buyers will be proud of for years to come. This boat is my Father's boat, he is the original owner and the boat has always been in our family.
Welcome to my auction for "Sophisti-Kat" a1985 NONSUCH 30 ULTRA. This is a very highend limited production sailboat built by Hinterholler Yachts, Ontario, Canada and designed byMark Ellis.
While there may be other NONSUCH 30's for sale on the market, this boat is extremely unique for two specific reasons:
1) Most of these boats were heavily cruised or raced; "SOPHISTI-KAT" was never cruised and was never raced. She spent most of her life on her mooring and was used for light family sailing and barbeques. The pictures clearly demonstrate this.
2) The other reason that this boat is unique is because it was purchased and built to my father's specifications meaning it is the "ULTRA" layout, not the standard layout and was equipped for global travel even though it rarely left the mooring. This boat has the upgraded bullet proof Westerbeke engine,
