14' strip planked outboard boat (Sport Boat)
2010 Custom built Sport Boat
Description
This is a 14 foot version of the Robb White Sport Boat. It was built after consultation with Robb White about the best way to shorten his original design, which was a 16 foot boat. There was an article published in "Messing About In Boats" (December 2009 issue) describing the design and construction of this "Short Sport". At that time, we had already built two 16' Sport Boats and were very familiar with the process. This one is strip-planked in cypress with a redwood pinstripe above the water line. There are two layers of 6 oz. fiberglass on the outside and one layer on the inside with RAKA epoxy. It is tough and strong and lightweight at around 100 lb. Gunwales, frames, seats and other hardwood trim are all Honduras mahogany. The front seat is easily adjustable for trim or removable if you like. For 32 years, I taught a high school boat construction class and I built this boat with a good friend and group of talented kids in my class of 2009-2010. It is a great boat on the water, beautiful, gently used, and absolutely one of a kind. It has probably been out on the water a dozen times. It includes a 4 hp, 4-stroke, low noise, low emission, Yamaha outboard (I have the original owner's manual for the motor) and a good road-going trailer. It only needs a good home and someone who will use it. Please let me know if you have any questions at all. Local pickup only, Maryville, Tennessee.
