So what's wrong with it???
As with any 30+ year old vessel, this vessel has a short list of repairs. What I will list for you below is the result of a recent survey. I do not have a copy of the survey, but the prospective buyer shared these items with me. I do not believe any of these things prevents the vessel from being sailed right now, again, she is in serviceable condition today, and in much better than average shape compared to other vessels her age and price range… The difference between me and other sellers is that I am telling you about these things now. You can and should expect to see these types of things with any 30+ year old vessel you look at. I will not accept a survey contingency…
1) As with virtually every vessel with inboard chain plates, the chain plates have leaked periodically over the years. They could probably use sealing today, and as a result of the leaking, one of the interior bulkheads has taken on moisture, and is soft in parts. The bulkhead in question is underneath the starboard side forward baby stay. eventually, it will either need to be cut out and replaced, or drilled and have resin injected into it. It is a very short bulkhead, relatively speaking. It is maybe a foot wide at the widest point, and 3 feet long, and is inside a locker. Probably not a major repair, and definitely does not keep the boat from being sailed today.
2) The fuel tank has a very slight drip. By slight, I mean maybe a drop a month. The previous owner told me about this, and it has not changed over the last six years I have owned the boat. The very slight drip is located on a lower seam. That seam has been sealed, and I do not believe the drip is related to corrosion at all. If I were keeping the boat, I would not mess with this, but it was noted on the survey, so I am relaying it to you.
3) The raw water pump has a slight drip. The engine itself runs great, and I do not know that this drip affect the performance of the pump, but again, it was noted, and I am sharing it with you.
4) Two people have placed moisture meters on the boat in the last few months. Both times, the readings were very typical of 30-year-old boats… Slightly elevated readings around the chain plates, and around the mast step. Again, very common stuff. There is no softness in any of the decks whatsoever… she is a very, very solid vessel.
5) She has multi-season bottom paint (Petit Hydrocoat), which was last applied in late summer of 2014. She will definitely need bottom paint in the spring...
As noted previously, if you are looking at boats this age and price range, this is the kind of stuff you will see. If these things bother you, you should probably be looking at more expensive, newer boats. She is a great and affordable boat for someone, and a great bargain at this price. I will be taking her off of the market at the end of November if she doesn't sell, and as you can imagine, will not be selling her for this low of a number in the spring…
The vessel was built in 1981, but she is technically a 1980 model. If you purchase the vessel, you will note that the title says 1980. You can verify through the hull number that she was actually constructed in 1981…
We offer this vessel in good faith, but she is 35 years old, so bidders should expect scratches, scuffs, cracks, etc. I did not wash the boat before the pictures were taken, so this is how she looks "in real life".There are no warranties or any kind, expressed or implied.
The vessel is located at North East River Yacht Club in North East, Maryland. The purchase price will includeyour use of the slip she is inuntil November 30th. NERYC is a great Club, and they would be happy to lease you a slip for the winter andnext season as well. Pleasevisitwww.neryc.comfor more information.
I will be available to show the boat on Saturdays and Sundays until I sell her, or until I close the listing for the winter. Again, I am happy to discuss any time, please call me at610 806 3954. Thanks very much for your interest!
