1973 O'Day Daysailor II Sailboat with Trailer
1973 O'Day Daysailor II
Description
Spring is in the air, and you've been thinking about learning how to sail. Don't let that wish pass you by another season. I present to you an excellent opportunity to acquire what is considered by many the perfect 'learn to sail' sailboat.
This is a 1973 O'Day Daysailor II
This 17 foot boat has a two bench cockpit and the benches are long enough to recline on. There is a covered cuddy for storage under the mid and fore decks. The stepped mast has a compression post that attaches to the hull at a point in the cuddy, and extends through a hole in the deck. There, it is topped with a hinged tabernacle for lowering and raising the mast. Stepping the mast and securing the standing rigging is easily done with two people.
I learned to sail on this boat, as did the gentleman who put it in my care about 4 years ago. The boat loves Lake Nockamixon in Quakertown PA, and slips are usually abundant, and inexpensive. There is a sailing club, and a sailing school there too. Nockamixon Sailing Club. I highly recommend both.

When I first got the boat, I replaced all of the running and standing rigging and new sails (2014). I've replaced some of the hardware and clutches (main sheet block and tackle), installed mainsail slab reefing lines and blocks and a down haul line and blocks to dowse the hank on jib without leaving the cockpit, and added a couple of deck cleats for better line organization.
In 2015 the bottom was scraped to fiberglass and 3 coats of ablative were applied. The topsides were compounded and waxed and much of the white pale oxidation has been removed. A new white topside stripe replaced the worn original. The rudder and tiller are in good shape.
Its been on the the trailer and under tarps since the end of the 2015 season.
The trailer is a Long brand trailer, made in North Carolina I believe. The hand winch has been replaced with new, and a swivel jack has been added to the tongue. It could use new bunk carpet, and a plan to replace the tires and repack the bearings in the next year or two.
Both boat and trailer are PA titled
There is no motor or motor mount.
