Description
You are bidding on a classicoriginal 1961 Rhodes Swiftsure 33 Sailboat same owner since 1969 has Atomic 4 cyl gas engine, wood burning stove & forward pulpit. Boat is mostly original and well maintained. This boat belonged to a good friend of mine and it was his most prized possession which he refused to ever part with. For over 46 years he would either be sailing the east coast or maintaining and perfecting it. Once he hit his late 80s his health prevented him from being able to continue maintaining it. Boat has been in the water winterized and not being used since 2013.
These swiftsure sailboats were designed by Legendary Naval Architect Philip L.Rhodes in New York & built in Amsterdam Ship Yard By G Devries Lentsch Jr. Less then 150 of these were made during the production run from 1959-1965 and they are very well known & respected in the sailing community.
Philip L. Rhodes (1895 -1974) was one of the most distinguished yacht designers of the past century. Indicative of his importance, in February 2005 He and Olin Stephens became the first two yacht designers inducted into the North American Boat Designers Hall of Fame at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut so you know this is a very well built & designed boat.
This boat can use some maintenance upkeep like painting varnishing & some mechanical work to get her up & going again. The hull is in great shape and top decks are also very solid as well.
