1973 Aquarius 21
1973 Aquarius
Description
For sale:
1973 Aquarius 21', in Richmond VA. For the money, this is hands down the best boat I have ever owned. I have had her sailing in breezes from 2knts-25knts. New keel, cable, and hardware was installed by the previous owner. The boat has new sails which have never been used, as well as a used main and genoa. The old jib is still on the boat, but needs repair. The interior was painted a few years ago and is in pretty good condition. The wiring and vhf are in new condition. I installed a Minn Kota Rip Tide salt water rated 55lb thrust trolling motor and a battery box. The trolling motor was $600 and has been used three times. The rudder is custom fabricated from two layers of ¾" cabinet grade ply, sandwiched with fiberglass and thickened epoxy between. SS screws were also used at time of clamping. The rudder was then wrapped in fiberglass, with additional layers around the entire leading and trailing edges. Then it was faired with thickened epoxy, and bottom painted, I have pictures documenting this process. The rudder also has a purchase system to both raise and lower it. A led anchor light has been mounted on the mast crane, which also houses the vhf antenna as well as the windex wind vane. The halyards have both been converter to rope from Cajun rope, and the jib halyard is now running through a custom delrin sheave. Also onboard is an anchor with plastic coated chain, and plenty of rode. The main has a reefing point for when the wind pipes up, and you want to sail on. The pop-top is in perfect functioning order as well as the adjustable motor mount on the back. All running lights, interior lights, and the stereo are functioning perfectly. The stereo is a cassette deck (don't laugh) with a converter to play from your smart phone or ipod etc. There is a galley sink with a hand pump and a thru-hull as a drain. The v-berth sleeps two, and then two more could sleep on the starboard and port settees. There is a new porta-potty with its own reservoir that snaps down, and is super easy to remove. Above the head is a passive air vent that had the outer cover replaced and is new. On the bulkhead, there is a first aid kit, an airhorn, and a fire extinguisher. On board is a folding swim ladder than hangs off the gunwale as well as a collapsable ladder. The bottom was bottom painted as I kept her in the water for one season, but she has been sitting on the trailer under a tarp for about a year. The trailer has newer tires that I would trust to tow just about any distance. The bearings have buddy bearings and the grease is clean and easy to check. I added new spring clips to the springs last year. For trailer lights, I made removable lights that slip onto the jib cleats and you just run the trailer wires along the deck, this avoids submerging the lights each time you launch the boat. Nearly all the rollers have been replaced on the trailer, and the bunks have been adjusted for the boat. The winch is a two speed, and it is lubed, serviced, and works perfectly. Basically, the boat is completely usable and needs nothing to enjoy for many years. The hull could use a paint job, but as you can tell, I made sure the boat was 100% functioning, as didn't worry about the hull paint so much. I always kept the deck scrubbed, and for the past two seasons it has been under a tarp with 4 uses since last summer. I am sure I have missed a few details, but she is an awesome little boat. Sails flat and safe! I am selling this boat as I am moving, I would consider delivery within 100mi for asking price. I also have a Catalina 30', and a home in Richmond VA for sale.
