1988 Lowells Boat Shop Sailing Dory
Description
Sailing Rowing Dory wood Lowell’s Boat Shop w Trailer 15’ Lowell’s Boat Shop Sailing / Rowing Surf Dory. Built in 1988 I am the documented 3rd owner. I purchased in 2013 from the estate of the 2nd owner. Sold new by Lowell’s in 1988 at a cost of $6875.00 This magnificent small vessel was completely wooded and professionally refinished in 2012 at a cost of over $8000.00 It presents nearly as new today, with the refinishing work holding up well. The bottom is fiberglassed cloth in epoxy resin and the top sides white is brushing Awlgrip. There is a line of cracked white finish on the starboard side. The sacrificial forefoot is showing some wear from the beach. (These boats were designed to be sailed from the beach) The Epiphanes varnish is holding up extremely well with no sign of deterioration, water intrusion, etc. One of the oak thwarts is rotted. I see no sign of deterioration in any of the others. This has created no structural issues (it’s not framing, all of the framing is solid) Includes sails, rigging, oars with rowlocks, fitted canvas cover. For the past 4 years I have sailed her every summer weekend off the beach at the Pine Beach Yacht Club in Toms River, NJ. To facilitate launching off the beach, I added protection for the centerboard and a new “kick up” rudder fabricated by derouvillesboatshop . (original fixed rudder included) I can easily sail her alone, or occasionally with a friend as “crew” She attracts “eyeballs” wherever she goes. Lowells Boat Shop in MA (lowellsboatshop.com) has been building these boats continuously since 1793. My boat is equipped with a Sliding Gunter Rig (duckworksmagazine.com/04/s/articles/gunter/index.cfm) and a loose footed main. No boom to knock a distracted fisherman overboard, and a rig which could be stowed completely within the boat when the day was over. The mast is easily stepped by one person. I’m selling her, because I am a new grand father, and I am moving on to a day sailor in which I can share the experience with my new grandson. The 1988 Cox Trailer is included. The trailer was fitted in 2013 with new tires, wheels, bearings and hitch for 2” ball This fine pocket yacht is priced for quick sale at $3900. It is titled in NJ, for easy transfer and registration in any state. All photos current. Can be seen weekdays at my business, Atlantic Towers, 235 Hickory Lane, Bayville, NJ 08721 Boat is for sale locally and may be withdrawn at any time
