Boat Makers description of the dinghy:
This is a reproduction of the Herreshoff Tech Dinghy as designed by George Owen in 1935.
It was built in 1986 by Bruce Malone of Camden, Maine after considerable research and licensing from the MIT Museum.
A fiberglass version of this boat is still raced today on the Charles River in Boston.
Dimensions are: loa 12'-6, beam 5'-0
Mast 17' 9½"
Construction is cedar planking on white oak frames, planking fastenings are copper rivets.
Thwarts, transom, breasthook, and mast partners are mahogany.
Spars are sitka spruce. All hardware is bronze, mostly custom cast to Herreshoff designs.Herreshoff style lever operating the centerboard too.
A nice pair of Shaw & Tenny leather wrapped oars are also included. As well as the jib sail too. The boat was designed to be used with a jib by stepping the mast in the aft location, or without a jib by stepping it in the forward location. These boats are customarily sailed without a jib since the jib is rather small.
