Portland Pudgy Safety Dinghy: the best dinghy for stability, ruggedness, unsinkability, and fun.
The Portland Pudgy has a highly informative website and a number of posts on YouTube. The website will tell you that the price of this item purchased new is $3k for the boat and $1.5k for the sailing rig, for a total of $4.5k. I'm asking half of that, even though it's had only two seasons of use. Or bring me a reasonable offer. In my opinion, the Pudgy is the perfect dinghy. Everyone who sees it says they want one. It can be boarded with feet on the gunnel without taking on water, and resists capsize no matter how much one provokes it. It is constructed in the same way as plastic kayaks, so it takes punishment and is easy to repair in the unlikely situation where it is damaged. It is unsinkable, and supports a crew even when flooded. It rows well, motors easily with a 2.5hp motor, sails beautifully in up to 20-25 knots, tows perfectly behind a mothership, and is easy to move around and transport.
The Pudgy is pram-shaped and compact, but it has more capacity than many ten-footers.
The Pudgy is great local transport and also will keep you alive if in trouble away from shore. There is an optional kit from the manufacturer to convert it into a sheltered lifeboat! Also available is an optional Weaver swim platform davit kit.
