"Tandava" is a bright red sloop that's sailed all over the middle Chesapeake, from Rock Hall to the Potomac, Eastern Shore, up the Choptank and Tred Avon rivers, and much more. She's a great basic boat for someone wanting hassle-free cruising, good handling, and the freedom of an uncomplicated boat. The raised cabin is longer than a traditional Rainbow's cuddy cabin, so her length overall is 26 feet even though she's considered a 24footer..

She comes with a main, main sheet, and hank-on jib with sheets, all of which are in good to fair condition. Aluminum mast and boom, Genoa cars, stanchions, hatch covers, and motor well. V-berth and cabin cushions, ice box, cupboards, tiller, black mainsail cover, fenders, lines, fire extinguisher, anchor, rode, newly replaced life lines, gas tank and fuel line, Mariner outboard motor, boat hook, fish net, and lots of little gear. The stern and interior lights have been rewired to a panel that needs hooking up to a battery. Included are two "eye" style port and starboard lights for the bow. The stern light is on a removable pole. There may be other stuff on board, but you can have fun exploring the lockers and drawers.

I have slept on board, anchored out, and crossed the Bay in all types of weather. She was designed by Sparkman and Stevens for the Annapolis Sailing School. They wanted a boat that could "carry four crew across the Bay in a Squall." She'll sleep four (if you're really friendly) or two adults comfortably. The cockpit holds four easily. The Sailing School still uses Rainbows!

The bottom was repainted two years ago, but she has not been used since, so it's dirty. The keel is bulb-shaped and flat on the bottom, so you can touch bottom without grounding hard. She draws 3.5 feet. I removed all through-hull fittings and fiber glassed over the holes, so the only hull hole is for the rudder. The rudder looks like a wing and was rebuilt.

The outboard motor winters in a basement and usually starts up easily. We named it "Mini Hulk" because it's a beast.

Currently located in Severna Park, Maryland, up the Severn River from Annapolis. Delivery is possible. If you have a boat trailer for a keel boat, you could trailer her home. There is a put-in at the dock where she's moored.

You are bidding on an older sailboat that was built at the time fiberglass boats were made with thick hulls. She could use some loving. You are buying her in AS IS CONDITION and the seller or owner cannot guarantee her suitability for your sailing ability or sailing locations. However, she's quite forgiving and easy to learn on. "Tandava" is number 23 of 26 ever made, so this is a rare boat. FYI: The name means "ecstatic dance."
