1970 Dolphin SR 14' sailboat with trailer ** Extremely Rare **
1970 Dolphin Dolphin SR
Description
This classic 48 year-old survivor is a dream to sail. She can be easily rigged by one person in 5 minutes or less and is just as easy for one person to sail! All you gotta do is set the mast, hoist the sail, float her, board her, take the tiller in hand, pull the main sheet taut against the wind and sit back and let mother nature do the hard work! If she is heeling over too much, just release the main sheet and she'll straighten out right away. I have sailed her on Eufala, Keystone, Ft. Gibson, Texoma, (those are all in OK), Carlyle (IL), Kentucky (KY of course), the Potomac, Occoquan, and Rappahannock rivers (VA), and across the Chesapeake bay (VA, MD). More recently she's been on Mark Twain, Creve Coeur, Lake of The Ozarks (all in MO), The Cuivre, IL, MO, and MS rivers. She's just that easy and fun to take out! The most wind I've had her in is 15 kts gusting to 20 and she was great in that. I've seen videos of these boats being sailed in 30+, but I don't recommend that unless you're a special kind of crazy!!
She has room for up to 4 if two are young children, but she's ideally suited for day sailing with a soulmate! She makes the perfect companion for a classic convertible, microbus, or woody station wagon. At 48 years she has minor cracking in the gel coat and a few small chips, but nothing serious. She is very sea-worthy and her sail is in excellent condition. A few minor hole, but you have to really search to find them - no tears and has only needed a couple small patches over the years. I have owned it for 25 years and have always kept it indoors. My Dad had it 10 years before me and also kept it in his garage, so she has been indoors most of her life. This is a very rare boat in excellent shape.
Included, from the ground up:1970 Trailer - clean title, working lights, 3 wheels and tires - all show slight dry-rot, but all are holding air and have good tread. ** The "tiller" referenced and included with this boat refers to the steering arm and hardware attached to the rudder, used for controlling the direction that the boat is facing. It does not refer to the Yard Machines rear tine tiller in the background of some of these photos. That is also for sale in a separate auction, but it is not for sail (yeah - bad pun) and is not included with this boat. ;)
Local Pickup is the buyer's responsibility. I will work with you or with a third party that you designate to pick it up for you, but arranging said pick up is the buyer's responsibility. You have the right of refusal at the time of pickup if you find some significant difference between the described and actual condition of the boat. The boat is sold as-is, where-is, so once you take her away there are no further warranties.
