Description
1961 Starcraft Vagabond 15 ft Runabout. Condition is Used.
For sale is a turn key 1961 Starcraft Vagabond 15 ft fiberglass runabout boat with a Mercury 55 E outboard 4 cylinder engine and a 1959 Gator trailer.
The Boat is solid and the fiberglass is structurally strong. The paint on the top of the boat is chipping and needs attention if you like something shiny. The paint on the hull has worn off in spots but can be repainted easily. The floor is in great shape as when I rebuilt it used marine grade plywood and fiberglassed it in. The carpet is in very good shape as well. Dual white vinyl seats are in good shape but are stained by mold when stored. The seats also lay flat and have storage underneath. The windshield is crazed and has a crack, the frame is good. Running lights front and back work from the front dash, along with a 12v auxiliary receptacle. There are air horns, the compressor is functional but horns don't make sound. Steering is via cable system to motor. The boat has two sunbrella fabric covers. A full length custom waterproof cover and a smaller sun cover. Boat can be moored or traveled with the full length cover. The smaller cover can be installed on the collapsable frame to the windshield.
The Mercury 4 cylinder engine, model Mark 55 E, serial number 895563 is fully functional. The cowl and front cover are from a 1960 Merc 400. Engine is electric start and has dual carbs with electric choke operational from the front dash. The motor originally a short shaft motor was converted with a long shaft kit to fit the boat hull. The lower unit had a crack repaired, welded and sealed for the last five years of running. The lower unit skeg is missing but doesn't affect performance. Prop is metal. Engine is controlled with the original Quicksilver throttle and shift sticks. A new water pump impeller was just installed as the old one was worn out. I have throughout the years replaced some parts with new as maintenance was performed. Although the engine is 100% functional, I would look at replacing some wiring to bring it up to a safe and reliable standard. I have the maintenance manual for Merc 65 and older models and also some extra parts that I kept on hand. Motor was always a strong runner with a 40 mph top speed. The boat also comes with a new 12v marine battery and 5 gallon gas can.
The trailer is a 1959 Gator and is in good structural shape. Currently the trailer is registered in PA. There is surface rust on some of the frame. The trailer tires both hold air but are old rubber. The spare tire is attached to the frame. Tires have bearing buddies. The trailer has a working manual winch for launching and loading the boat. The running lights are waterproof and are functional. The hitch is 1 7/8".
Engine can be run on site.
