1961 Pearson Triton
Description
Pre-Estate Sale
Several years ago, we bought a 1961 Pearson Triton, hull number 230,and had a trailercustom made to tow her home. While in the process of refurbishing it,I had a heart attack and then we bothdeveloped a multitude of health problems. Now we are not able to complete the process. In addition, what progress we had made has been reversed. We are now selling her plusthe $7,000 trailer. The interior has suffered due to the humidity and time lost. She needs her complete interior rebuilt. We have her sails, mast with spreadersand rigging. We have the dodger and all of the cushions. The canvas is blue sunbrella and in very good shape. We have re-stitched some of the canvas, but some can stilluse re-stitching.
All of the pictures are current, with the exception of the last one, which was taken when we bought her. We included it to show her potential.
Thedodger and bimini bows, stanchions and riggingare stainless steel. Most of the fittings are bronze. We have the instruction book/owner's manual for the Volvo MD7B diesel engine. If a person were to buy this trailerand boat, he or she could scrap all of her parts and make more than the price of the trailer. If we were ten years younger, we would rebuild the boat ourselves, if we were five years younger, we would scrap her parts (if we could find the heart).
The price we are asking is primarilyfor the trailer, which is in good condition and for which we paid $7,000.00. The hull is sound. The Volvo engine was running very well while we worked on her.It turns over, but we haven't started it because the fuel in the tank is old and needs to be replaced. The mast is a fractional rig and in good shape. The rigging and spreaders on the mast are still good, as far as we know. The interior needs rebuilding. Rain water got inside and a lot of the wood is soft. We have taken some of the bad wood out. Before the heart attack, I had taken some of the good wood out and revarnished it. It is in good shape and goes with the boat. There is a mainsail, jib and spinnaker. The cushions and canvas are in good shape, some restitching may be necessary. The boat is still well worth the effort, but we realize it will be a major project, but only for the right person with the incentive to do it. When we bought her, we could have sailed her down the waterway from Connecticut to Florida, but we chose to tow her. She would make a wonderful boat for someone who knows Pearsons.
Practical Sailor wrote a review of the Triton. I can send a copy of the entire article to you upon request. Prior to the heart attack, we had sanded the entire hull, put a primer above the waterline and sanded it down in preparation to a two-part paint. We will offer the boat locally.
We will be happy to showthe boatto you. Just send us a message so that we can arrange the time, etc.
We will try to describe this boat to the best of our ability. If you have any questions at all, please ask before bidding. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We will only accept returns if items are not as described, per eBay policy.
Thank you for looking. This boat is an iconic treasure which needs a lot of hard work, paint and polish, and TLC, but will be very well worth the effort. The classic graceful beauty of this boat will last forever once she is back in shape. Don't let it get away!
