Kimtah is a fiberglass trawler designed by Ed Monk Jr. and built by GarrenBlakley in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1976. Ed Monk Jr. is one of the premieryacht designers and Garren Blakley is best known for its line of40 - 50 ft commercial fishing trawlers used thru- out British Columbia and Alaska.
Kimtah was purchased in October 1998 and spent the summer of 1999 cruisingfrom her home port of Anacortes, WA to Southeast Alaska and back. Thefollowing year she cruised thru-out British Columbia and The San Juan Islands ofWashington. Preparations began for cruising to CentralAmerica.
In the winter of 2001-2002, Kimtah was hauled out. A newNorthern Lights generator, hydraulic bow thruster, hydraulic anchor windlass,Spectra water maker, washer, dryer, dish washer, vacuflush toilet, and pump-out, were installed. All electronics were updated and the canvas Bimini top was replaced with afiberglass hard top. She was completely rewired and the interior was remodeled with solid teak cabinets and Corian countertops.
In June of 2002 Kimtah left Anacortes on a great six month cruise down the Pacificwest coast (stopped at nearly all ports along the way) and arrived in San Diego inDecember. She left the USA in December and over the next 12 years, cruisedCentral America, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica,Panama, Columbia, Honduras and Belize before returning to Key West Floridaand cruising up the inter coastal waterway to Washington, DC and then back tothe Rio Dulce, Guatemala.
Over the past 16 years of cruising, Kimtah has been maintained and upgradedwith many improvements including active stabilizers, air conditioning, water-maker,single side band radio with email modem and solar panels.
