A YACHT TO CIRCUMNAVIGATE IN SAFETY & COMFORT- One of Strongest Hulls Ever Built
1985 Blue Water Yachts Inc George Stadel III Designed Vagabond 42 Ketch
Description
The World Famous George Stadel III designed Vagabond 42 is well regarded as one of the most seaworthy Blue Water Capable Yachts ever built. The boat brand says it all. "Bue Water Yachts, Vagabond."
The quality of the build is legendary and comes from the famous Vagabond Blue Water Yacht Builders who also built the Westwinds. This was the same boatyard complex where the greatest world cruisers of the classic plastic era were constructed, Formosa, CT, Tayana, Tai Chiao, Passport, Hylas, Taswell, all regarded as the boats of choice for people planning to sail thousands of miles beyond sight of land.
If you have specific questions or want to know the reserve price, give me a call. I will only discuss that over the phone because I want to know who you are and that you are not someone with no sailing experience who is planning to get yourself killed by setting out to sail across the Atlantic after two days of practice.
I am a professional sailor and I restore sailboats professionally, three or four per year usually. I bought this boat at a price that would enable me to complete a restoration and make a $50K or better profit, but I am willing to sell it to somebody else at my cost because I have five boats right now, all well regarded world cruisers, and I have to sell something to buy more lumber to complete building a house that I am trying to get the roof on, and we also owe my father in law money on his personal world cruiser that is our keeper boat that he agreed to sell to my wife and I if we can get him some money ASAP.
Long story short, this boat in its current condition is worth about $65K to $75K fair market value, and we are willing to let it go for about a third of that - for the same amount we have invested. We need $12K right away to take care of urgent weather related construction expenses on our new house we are building, which is the only reason we are willing to sell the boat without fixing it up ourselves and making a profit. The balance up to the reserve price we are willing to finance over the next six months. So if you are trying to achieve getting a truly legendary world cruiser at a fraction of fair market value and only have a little bit of funds to work with, this boat might be the opportunity you are looking for. We really want it to go to a good home, because it is very very hard to find a boat of this type of quality and brand recognition for under $100K. These don't come across Ebay except one every few years and usually that's with a reserve price above $75K.
For folks who actually will take this fine small ship cruising around the world, this is the sort of vessel you want to go cruising on. We have close family friends who cruised full time for 15 years on a Vagabond and swore that they never encountered another brand or model of boat anywhere in a foreign port that they liked better than the specific cruising characteristics, strength, sea-worthiness and sailing performance of their Vagabond. I am happy to consult and give tips and advice on exactly how you can go about restoring this boat to 100% without breaking the bank and I will be happy to do that if you become the buyer.
The main photo is a photo from the web of a sistership. Since I don't have any photos to show you what this one looks like under sail I wanted to show you what they look like out in a good breeze on the ocean. All the other pictures are of the actual boat and we taken just a couple weeks ago.
Call me if you have questions or want to discuss your cruising plans and whether this particular small ship would be appropriate for you, or to discuss purchasing the boat with owner financing.
I also have about four times as many photos as Ebay will allow me to post with the listing, so if you want to see the rest of the photos give me a call and give me your email address and I will email them to you.
