Islander 28 Diesel Engine, Perry design, fun boat
1976 Islander Islander 28 Bob Perry design
Description
1976 Islander 28 sloop Robert Perry design, this boat sold very successfully with 400+- models built. Specs 28'loa 9.8' beam 5' draft with 3000# lead keel this boat has a Volvo Penta md 2020 D three cylinder diesel made by perkins that runs well. Prop is new also. She has been wet inside due to someone not watching the cockpit drains and rain water getting in so there is work to be done inside but she is basically pretty solid. The pictures tell the story as I have deliberately NOT tried to clean up any indications of water. Other parts of the boat need going over, however I have found the running lights do work and the cabin lights too, and the motor and its panel work well. There is peeling paint and very sticky hinges or some doors that have come off inside but they are there ready for you to re install. Dock rash ar the transom and a rub mark port side aft. Other areas needing attention are the bow pulpit being bent, hinges missing/broken on the anchor hatch on deck, and a lot of deferred maintenance. Mainsail and cover need a lot of work or just find a used one at one of the many sail lofts who ship to you such as Bacon sails, Minnies Surplus or Atlantic sail traders.
The pictures are current as of the last couple weeks, she was painted with two coats of bottom paint prior to launch April 13th 2017 (last week), at which time I replaced the main halyard and went to the top of the mast to retrieve the spinnaker halyard and inspect the rig. Everything looked serviceable so we sailed her for three hours and motored her for one hour out and 45 minutes in and everything worked well. Sails include the main and a jib. Lines to use everything are there. The mainsail held up in 15 MPH wind but I can not say for how much longer.
The decks are very solid and after sitting in the water for a week the bilge has the same little bit of water as before she went in. Galley is simple with a deep sink, an alcohol stove and a nice size ice box. Cushions were dry and are not torn up, and a wash in a cold cycle at home will make them look very nice. A paint brush and some bleach will go a long way to making her nice inside, there are a couple (screwed in) panels that would be easy to replace and would make her look better but in my opinion she is still solid. The cabin sole has a lot of peeling white paint but is not rotten. Tabbing looks good. Winches work well, anchor and line included, as well as some life jackets, and various other items. Single lever engine control. Tiller (new) steering.
Sale is where is as is and storage will begin at $228 per month on May first. Buyer will be responsible for this. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding as I want you too know what you are buying, and will be as honest as I can on any questions, with that being said, any deposits put forth will be forfeited if for ANY reason the sale is not completed. I MAY be interested in partial trades of sailing gear as I have a larger project boat I am building. I also like most anything Diesel. Possibly I would take a smaller boat in PARTIAL trade but I am restricted in space so It needs to be small. You never know, send a pic and ask...with your value stated clearly.
