Defiance is a very well maintained CAL 35 Mk II, the more desired configuration of this racer/cruiser. Super fast 35 and able to point well upwind beating most 40s in her generation and beyond, this is the perfect family sailboat for weekend cruising or weekend racing!
.
a very reliable Universal Atomic 5432 diesel engine, the boat will travel at 6 to 7 knots burning 3/4 gallon/hr. The engine was updated this past summer with new fuel injectors, new heat exchanger, new fuel filter, changed transmission fluid, changed oil, new oil filter and a new fresh water pump.
Full sail inventory: working jib, 140 Jenny, 150 furling Jenny, 170 mylar drifter and triradial spinnaker. The mainsail is rigged with the Dutchman flaking system... very cool and makes raising/ lowering the main singlehanded a breeze.
This boat is ready to go today.
The interior teak is very warm, welcoming and in solid condition. Some parts, in the head and under the galley sink, could use a fresh coat of varnish because that’s where there is some fading. But again, the entire interior is in amazing shape considering her age! There is literally genuine teak everywhere! But this is a maintenance issue and solely cosmetic.
One of the best features in my opinion, is that the head is to port near the companionway entrance and NOT next to the V-berth. That way you can sleep without that inevitable midnight pee/poo that your guests will have with the door to your owners cabin open or closed! So great and unusual for a 35 class sailboat this era as most insisted on putting the what I feel to be useless quarter berth aft which winds up being used for storage anyway and not sleeping.
The port-side berth pulls out to make a full two person berth and there is tons of storage on both sides behind the back cushions.
There is tons of storage for clothing too!
New cushions, new teak floor, three burner stove/oven, nice, big nav station, hot water heater (engine and electric) two brand new deep-cycle batteries, pressurized water, head with shower.
Exterior is in good condition with normal wearing on teak wood. Looks great with a couple hours sanding and varnishing each season. Work done in summer of 2015 included: New bottom coat applied. Topsides also waxed and polished.
This generation Cal 35 goes for north of $35k and that’s what it is insured for! Here are some examples:
