Description

For sale / auction is a 1977 Gulfstar 37 aft cockpit sloop which has been outfitted for bluewater cruising and living aboard. I've had her for 2 1/2 years (bought for $25.000 in St. Petersburg FL) and put ~ $50.000 in her as she was basically a Tampa Bay day sailing boat.
Due to her specific layout, she's ideal for a couple as she has a comfy V-Berth and the largest cockpit lockers of all time, but no aft stateroom or quarter berths. As I am planing to go sailing with a bunch of friends, her layout is not practical for me anymore. She does have settees on either side in the salon which pull out to doubles, but well, it's the salon and not a cabin with a door.
I've sailed her across the Caribbean and through the Bahamas for, having her hauled out 5 times in 2 years for maintenance. I have been through some heavy weather with her in the offshore Atlantic and she behaved very well. You can find some info on Gulfstar Sailboats online; look especially for the late 70s and 80s models made in cooperation with Ted Hood, as the early designs by founder Vince Lazzara were questionable interchangeable molds that could be trawlers or sailboats. This caused some bad rep for Gulfstar Yachts, and eventually Lazzara teamed up with Ted Hood to design some sturdy oceangoing sailboats from 1976 on. The fiberglass on the bow section is ~1 1/4" thick, and she has an encapsulated modified fin shoal draft (5') keel (part of the hull, not bolted on) and a skegged rudder. It's a really thick sturdy plastic classic tank.
Although she is German flagged right now, I hold the US title and all documentation, thus re-flagging her back to US is the same procedure as buying any other US boat. There shouldn't be any additional fees or bureaucratic hassles.

- one mainsail 2013 Doyle with double reef cringles and a sewn in lazy bag/lazy jack system; the bag becomes part of the sail when hoisted. Lazy bag needs zipper replacement.
- 2011 150% genoa and 120% genoa, both in okay to good condition (crispy but suffered some light stains), Hood roller furling with double foil (could hoist both sails at the same time for downwind sailing)

- The manual anchor windlass is not working as of now
- The swim platform needs welding or bolting repair on the bracket
- The teak varnish needs to be redone, especially toerails and handrails. (Cockpit and dorade vent boxes just done)
