Friendship Sloop - Registered Class C - Antique Phil Bolger wooden boat
1960 Phil Bolger Design (Small Boats -1973, Page 146-151) Friendship Sloop class c
Description
I bought this Sloop in Camden, Maine in1976 from a prominent musical instrument maker, Nick Appolonio. It is featured in Phil Bolger's first book, Small Boats, and an actual picture of the boat under construction in Camden and some other pages of the book are shown here. I have used this boat ever since, except for the past three years when I have not had the time to launch it. However, during the lay-up time, I did some needed repairs. It is insured and ready to go, although, after being out of the water so long, I cannot guarantee its current seaworthiness. This sloop has been all over Penobscot, Muscongus and Sheepscot's Bays and the Islands and I participated in a few Friendship Sloop races, a number of years ago. It is still registered as a Class C Sloop, "Ragtime Annie". As far as I know, the mast, spars, and sails are all OK. It hasmattressesfor both bunks and comes with a few items, including an alcohol stove, twobulkheadmounted compasses, aknotmeter, depthfinder and a Danforth anchor. (or ships' anchor if you prefer). The keel was replaced about 15 years ago and the deck was replaced with mahogany and teak a few years before that. The keel was laid in approximately 1960 and she was launched in approximately 1972.
Ragtime Annie ( designed as Prancing Pony) is 26 overall from bowsprit to transom, 22 on deck and 18.6 feet on water line. Her beam is 10 ft on deck and 7.6 on the waterline. The mast is approximately 32 feet and the mainsail is approximately 300 square feet. The jib is approximately 100 square feet.
This is a handyman's boat, as she is an olderwooderboat that needs the owner's attention from year to year. It is a joy to sail and is definitelyahead-turner. Compliments and questions abound from other skippers who appreciate anolderwooden craft.
I will include the 4hspJohnson Sailmaster 20" Motor, as shown. However, I will plan to sell the 9.9 Yamaha 25", electric start Sail Drive motor separately.
I will sell this boat for $2800 where she is, as is, in Unity, Maine. Once I launch her later this spring, the price will increase to $3800. I will be planning a few trips, but I do not usually go for more than a few days at a time.
Thanks for looking. This boat wants a good home as I am now over 70 and it is little too much for me now!
Local pick up only.
