23 Foot Carl Alberg Sloop Project Sailboat

Description

For sale is a partiallyrebuilt hull and deck for a Carl Alberg designed 23 foot sloop. Currently resting on a 2011 Maynard 7000lb flatbed trailer. I'm basically asking a few $ more than the cost of the trailer. The only mileage on the trailer was the trip from the lot in PA to Eastern Long Island where in now rests. If you wantthe boat but not the trailer, I would consider crediting back the trailer after its is returned. I no longer havespace or time towork on this, and I can't see paying to store it for 10 more years. If someone is looking for a fun boat project you can have at it for the cost of the trailer, or free if you just want to borrow the trailer.
I believe this boat was originally sold as a kit with a hull and deck. The original builder didn't do a very good job, and although Carl Alberg is world renowned for designing classic seaworthy hulls, this one wasn't built to the quality of a Cape Dory for example. The deck core turned out to be completely rotten and waterlogged, so I ended up removing the deck, turning it upside down, completely removing the inner skin and rotten core, and rebuilding it with West Systemepoxy, biaxial fabric/roving and vacuum bagged balsa core. I also took the liberty to re-design the hatch layout, remove the outboard motor well(which was in a really awkward place in the cockpit, panel the headliner and house sides, cut openings for Newfound Metalport lights(not included). Forward hatch opening has been modified to accept a Lewmar size 44 ocean hatch. There are solid marine ply blocks in the core at locations where stanchions/pulpit/cleats, etc. will be placed. Final fairing/painting on the exterior deck still remains to be done. The hull has been cored on one side above the waterline. I have balsa core and some fabric included for the remaining side. Lead ballast has been re-cast and installed in the proper location according to the original drawings(included). Hull to deck flange has been rebuilt with West System and biaxial tapes. No interior(you canbuild to suit). I was planning on converting this to electric inboardauxiliary but no engine is included. No sails or rigging except original mast. I have various bits and pieces of deck hardware-stanchion bases, cleats etc. I have a copy ofAlberg's original drawings I got from Peabody Essex museum I will include.
The deck is currently back on the hull for transport. It is not glassed in place. It would make sense to finish the interior work with the deck off, then install it permanently. The hull is in a cradle that allows it to be rolled on its side so glass work can be easier. 4 Brownell steel stands and chains are also included. Canvas tarp is included.
